    got some elephants

i went for a fish near ashburton yesterday, wasnt expecting to get alot maybe a kahawai or some rig.
i threw a strip of squid on my hooks and cast just behind the breakers where i could see the water was cleaner and once my line was in the water i proceeded to setup my 2nd rod but i didnt even have time to put it together and my rod was bent over with something big.
after a good tussle i landed my first ever elephant fish.
spend the next 2 hours catching a few more elies and a handful of rig and spineys totaling 9 elephants, 6 rig and 5 spineys with the biggest elie being 6.5kg not a bad days catch

whats the best recipie for cooking these suckers? i pan fried a fillet in butter but found it a but dry but still very tastey.

Sounds like a busy but good time. Can't help with the cooking hints though.

Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire

It bears a strange resemblance to Dundee.

Did you catch the rig on squid?
I have caught hundreds and never once on anything but crustaceans. Interesting.

yep only used squid, went out again today and got another 6 elephants, and tons of rig probably 20+ and one of them was over a metre.
