    Haast/Westland fishing

We, wife and I, are going to travel mid March to Haast for a few days visiting Jacksons Bay then travel up the coast to at least Hoki maybe Westport.
I'm not going to take a rifle but will take the trout and sea/salmon rod.
Anyone recommend good fishing spots for both trout and surf.
    Thanks.

Don't forget to ask the young lady at H&F in town. Being raised at Jackson's she is sure to at least know someone in the know. Have fun.

I am reliably informed good snapper are being caught as far south as Bruce bay at the moment.

Cheers VC, had some good info from R95 as well
We will break in Haast/Jacksons bay area for three days, then travel through to Franz area for a day or two, then meander our way to Hoki for another three day break.
My Uncle farmed for years in a place called Ruatapu
Ruatapu, New Zealand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
about 10k the south of Hoki and roughly the same maybe a little less up from Ross, he worked sometimes in the sawmill that was there at the time.

As Kids and teens we spent many an xmas and other holidays in the area.
My wife has never been so we will take it easy and enjoy.

Saw mill still going today. Good spot to go surf casting opposite there. Used to be common to catch snapper right down the coast but they were supposedly cleaned out by commercial boats. Still the odd one caught.

They were all but cleaned out of tasman bay, which all but wiped out your coast snapper which are one and the same.
This has been a good season for all here in tasman so will be a good season on the coast and I am informed there has been some good catches surfcasting recently.
Get a line in the water K95!

I will be in Haast/Jackson's mid March chasing Tuna and blue cod. If weather is rough will be chasing a salmon or 2 at Paringa.
Will most likely have a couple spare seats in the boat if you want a day out. Very weather dependant tho.

Took or should I say caught 7 trout out of the Arawhata Saturday and Sunday, returned 6. Nothing big, feisty 1-1.5lb browns all of them.
Saw to Beauts in the Turnbull last night had to go 7-8lb if not more, on of them anyway, never even looked at anything I sent to them.
Weather has been perfect, drove away up the Jackson river on Saturday lovely place.
Had a go at surfcasting on nail beach and by Hannahs clearing, got eaten by sandflys both times so went back to the rivers where at least I can move about.,
    In Franz at the Moment.
