If its guns, tits or tyres it's going to cost you lots of money
Dunno about summer, but it's good winter fishing for Blue cod. Grouper a way out there also. Follow the charter boats from Moeraki...................................

Fishing can good need a decent boat as there is some distance involved. Biggest challenge will be getting a window of flat seas, there's a reason that the fishing is reasonably good, the weather and swell ensures it doesn't get flogged out........
So here's an old thread but bugger it.
I've been out a couple of times at moeraki on charters but we are keen to go out ourselves. How far are we likely to have to go out for blue cod?
I remember we were in about 30m of water.

good size pipis
"ars longa, vita brevis"
Generally along that coast if you find a good spot on a reef and weed only a few hundred meters off shore
I found you had to go out a it to get away from the kelpy reefs, other wise you just lost gear. We were heading out 5-ish kms and finding any sort of foul ground on the sounder and doing drops. 30-50m depths. Fishing was pretty good. Not as good as way down here on the South coast, but not bad.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
Thanks @JoshC
5km isn't too bad, I had heard 15 miles and thought ahh maybe not

The thing I like most about fishing up there is that even on a fairly average day sea conditions wise, it's like a flat as day down here, so its quite enjoyable! Lol
