I'm going up to the Mount around Christmas time and was just wanting some tips on surfcasting up that way? I've never done it before, but can get my hands on a rod so thought I might as well.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
Cheers

hey ben, i done a bit in the past. your best bet is to use light line on your reel six pound ish if you are only fishing off the beach. with a heavy shock leader. the lighter your line the further u will be able to cast and less drag in the water. if u want to catch kahawai fish during the day. if you want to catch snapper fish from dusk well into the evening. get one of them little led lights and place it on the end of your rod so u can see the bites. use oily bait such as pilchards but you may have to tie them on. or at low tide find a tuatua bed and try them as well, great snapper food. dont wade up to your neck fish at you feet first. change your bait at regular intervals. anywhere along a surf beach should do, but try to look for the holes if you can. you dont have to have flash gear, the 90 mile contest was often won with guys using the warehouse fishing tackel. i hope this helps abit.
I used to live in Papamoa as a kid and used to fish the area a lot before I left the bay of plenty. Go down Papamoa beach road there are beach accesses all the way down there, the domain is worth a shot (go 800 meters south of the surf lifesaving tower), go around the mount hill and fish from the beaches opposite Matakana island, also around leisure island is worth a crack. Salted bonito, tuatua and trevally were my go to baits.
RULE 4: IDENTIFY YOUR TARGET BEYOND ALL DOUBT
To be a Human is to be an Alien, ask the animals, We invade this world and we are killing it, we are destroying the earth and nobody gives a fuck except for the animals
.
Thanks guys, appreciate the advise
Make sure you lock everything up, you know maybe park off the street to lol
If its guns, tits or tyres it's going to cost you lots of money
