    Info wanted on Kontiki

Hi i was just after a bit of info on fishing with a electric kontiki.I am going to sell my fishing kayak set up to fund a long line and would like to know what brands are best/worst. Can you use them in bad weather and rough seas. Any other tips or info on choosing a kontiki and set up would be very much appreciated. Cheers.

Don't know about other brands so I'm not saying they are no good , but have done a lot of fishing with the sea horse ones , they are real good . Two of my mates have them , the only thing they did was put heavy main line on there winches . One is about 10 yrs old other 3 or 4 . No troubles so far . Only trouble is I'm sick of elephant fish !

one more tip, were your main line hooks onto your sea horse extend it and put ten mill steel cable bout 10m long attach it to your sea horse with a padlock!!!.Ive heard of a few guys getting cut off by some shitheads 2k of shore in small boats.

Best advice is get someone else to buy it then borrow it. I can think of 4 straight off the top of my head that get minimal use, so all I buy is a dozen

And i was worried about a shark biting the line when chasing a hooked fish, which someone told me can happen. But if i did see someone take my kontiki it would not be hard to see which direction they went, and be there when they landed on the next beach. I fucking hate thieving fucking scum.

I made my own electric Kontiki out of a piece of PVC sewer pipe which worked bloody well but I gave up fishing with it and sold it after a few years ..... 25 hooks and any where from 10-25 doggies per set was getting pretty depressing

The sea conditions didn't seem to matter too much, judging for the wind and currents and setting the off set and rudder appropriately was the key to getting it off the beach and this did take some practise but was easy enough to achieve.

Fishing it in Hawkes Bay between Kidnappers and Whirinaki I caught 1 Gurnard, several Kahwai, a very small Bronze Whaler and bloody hundreds of Dog Fish over a four year period.

I still like the idea of fishing with them but the effort is not really worth the return around these parts ATM.

The Seahorse and the Shark Kontiki's look like the biz alright, especially with the GPS guidence system.

    Cheers
    Pete
