    Kingis in the dinghy

Got home last night from 9 nights up at French Pass. Main goal was to target kingfish around the pass from the 3.1 RIB. Had heaps of success jigging despite having to use my lighter gear (Saltiga 15HL on a PE3 rod with PE3 braid) after breaking my heavier jigging reel (Seigler SGN) on day 2 after half a dozen fish. Got 2 mates onto their first kings and regularly outfished the bigger boats in the pass with smart use of the sounder. Absolutely loads of Bronzies around, got a set of teeth marks in the Suzuki to keep, and maybe lost 6-8 fish to them. Landed a 2m shark to the boat on a Calcutta 401 baitcaster... Took 2 kingis home for the freezer. Epic trip.

It was the best of the trip, cut my hands grabbing the leader and yanking it into the boat ahead of a shark...

    Good stuff Gimp.
    Surpised we didn't see you.
Did you see the whales there new years day?
Max drag and winch them straight up is the only way to beat the sharks.... could be a bit more difficult without a gunnel to brace against tho I guess.

New Years Day we went up to the Rangitotos in the morning cos it was flat calm, so missed the whales. Fished the pass in the evening and got a couple of rats and a head... we were trying to winch them in pretty quick once we lost a few and that seemed to mostly beat the sharks, but it takes a lot of the fun out of it.

    Good stuff. Amazing place eh.
The sharks can be a good battle too if you target them. Especially from the shore.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
