That's a big trout! Good on them for letting it go, not sure if I could have done the same.

Ice was plenty thick enough. Nice tent setup they had too. Much better than what I had in Canada.

Yeah pretty flash alright! All I had was a bucket and some handwarmers in my pocket.

Some of the ice fishing setups I saw were pretty mean, full on huts with log burners and TV, etc.

@Bryan - I know what you mean man ha ha. Last time I went out fishing I used an old claw hammer to break through the ice and sat on a piece of wood I had dragged onto the lake while some guys had awesome relax shacks out on the lake - some complete with couches and on-board power!

It was quite fun roughing it out on the lake, but it got quite uncomfortable when you are sitting on a bucket not moving, its -36 degrees and there's a stiff northerly blowing. The 3km hike back to the cabin helped warm us back up.

Was totally worth it for the experience though!

Crooked Lake in Saskatchewan JayColli. We drove the 1000km from Calgary to the lake for a few days fishing/hunting over new years 2010.

Caught a few fish but all were quite small. Enough for a feed. Was pretty cool watching the fish freeze before your eyes within minutes of pulling them out of the water, kept them nice and fresh though.!
