    Lower Reaches Local River

I took my youngest son to a local river the other day for a fish, he is three years old but loves fishing.

The first pool we came too held some nice looking fish considering the season that we have had with flooding and very dry spells.

I set him up with a worm and he was practicing his fly casting with the rod dragging the sinker and worm through the water when i looked up and saw a nice fish t the base of a tree in the foam line.

I quickly grabbed my fly rod, tied on a humpy blowfly and cast to the fish, slurp the fish hit it straight away.
It was a great fight and the fish fought very well, my son really wanted to eat it as he had never tried trout before so I quickly dispatched it.

We baked it that night with lemon in the cavity and lemon pepper on the outside.

Fair to say that my family all loved it!

    Hi Sarvo,

It’s actually the lower Pareora, it has fished very well this season.

I do love the Opihi and Tengawai, beautiful water

Awesome. Fish has lovely markings, well done.
Young lad will be hooked on fishing for life now and that's a good thing.
