How Come?
Choice! Good to see cheers
Good news. I thought I read somewhere that the taking of kina was to be allowed. Problem is that anyone "poaching" will just claim to be kina diving. If they're smart, they'll leave their spear guns and cray nooses at home. Having said that, it is Northland!
You could say do a weekend cull, get all interested parties free divers / tankers ..together on a weekend when Kina are fat and worth harvesting and do a comp / cull! Offer spot prizes etc!
That or just call it a cull, find out how turn them into burley and set to harvesting as many as possible in a organised and determined way. Target an area at a time say one day a month and slaughter them.
That said weed beds are fickle things, I have dived the Glendunne for the last three years ( the reserve 100 meters north) has being in place for 10 yrs + and the weed beds have being patchy for the previous three...this year it is completely differnt with a thick bed along the whole coast , still a narrow corridor but a complete bed from the reserve to the radio mast possibly 3.5 of coast!
She'll be right, I'll send my brother up. That fucker can eat more Kina roe than two rugby teams of divers could pull out of the sea. On a dive trip to the Barrier several years ago he almost got biffed off of the charter boat as while all the rest of us were bringing back crays and fish, he brought back sacks of Kina and then sat up on deck at the bow eating them and making a hell of a mess.
ha ha that's me, my first and last dives over summer are Kina dives
It's a relatively small area, plenty of other places to fish.
