    Mavora Lakes Fishing

    Evening lads,

Just wanted to ask a quick question regarding fishing the Mavora Lakes.
I'm due for a bit of a camping excursion to the area in mid November and was just reading about some of the fishing regulations.
I've come across a bit of legislation that dictates that "No licence holder shall fish for sports fish from the shore on the lakes unless they are the holder of a child or junior licence".
Is this accurate? I've never come across such a directive before. That would mean that one could only fish from a kayak or other non-motorised vessel.

    Cheers,
    Dan

I don't understand. It specifically states that 'No licence holder', meaning, even if you have a licence you can't fish from the shore unless you are the holder of a child or junior licence, or in other words, unless you are a child. What am I missing. Could you clarify? I should mention that obviously I have a licence.

I could be wrong, but I think it refers to bait fishing - juniors and children can use worms etc, adults can't bait fish unless they are teaching a child. Adults must use artificial only.

Everyone shore fishes there, if they don't have a boat.

Cheers Josh. I think I'll give the DoC office there a ring just to get some further clarification.

If you have a kayak don't overlook the South lake it used to fish well.

Is this where you saw that? https://nzfishing.com/southland/wher.../mavora-lakes/

The only reliable source for F&g regulations is the F&G regulations, not rando other websites. There is no such stipulation in this year's regulations.

Southland F&G have pretty much thrown the rule book away this season, from what I hear. No O/S tourists.

Yes that's the one. It's proved useful in the past but yes, the Fish and Game regulations would have been a better source.

I'm a NZ citizen. I'll have my citizenship certificate with me so hopefully I'll be ok.

Yes, and as stated in reply number 3, I have a full season licence. I've been fishing for trout since I was 5 in NZ. This isnt my first tango. Just needed clarification about the Mavora lakes is all as I've never been. Have only fished Hawea and a few of the rivers down South.
