    Muriwai bch area

Righty ho. I am off to the wild west coast of Muriwai to work for a few weeks. As there is no hunting in the area, I guess I will try and fit some rock/beach fishing in.
Having never ventured off the Coromandel for fishing, can anyone give me a pointer or two please...pretty please. Do I take the surfcasting gear or just general rock hopping stuff? Etc etc etc.
    Heading up Sat 23rd

Take both. There is the rock outcrop between maori bay and muriwai, where you can still alright on.
There is a regular strong current that runs up the beach that can be a pain in the arse. Watch the tide if you drive right to the top as there is an area that washes right up against the dunes.
Other than that its really just like reading any beach.

Your obviously no west coast boy Gibo.
What's a little undertow, rip or rogue wave between friends
Muriwai even provides free burley when the locals pretend there are no sharks there (seals guys, seals).

Lots of poser surfies up here.
Boards stay on the beach or they sit on their boards out behind the breakers.
Old head hammer hand I used to work with started surfing in the 60's.
He had a very simple rules between posers and surfers - If you puled the board off the car and went into the waves you were a surfie.
If you stopped on the beach/waxed your board after getting there/scratched your arse/chatted up the girls, you were a poser

Not there yet Rushy, just loading up my poor little van.
I have seen and heard all the stuff about the conditions over the dark side, so will be taking care for sure.
No, I dont want and never have wanted to catch a pointer, either landbased or any other way. Those things can stay right where they belong (and dominate) thankyou.

Might be heading to Kariotahi next sunday for a surfcast Pengy if you want to join me if I do not end up going out on a boat trip as a casual , watch those rocks at muriwai they are relentless I fished from them once in flat conditions then out of the blue I got washed across the rocks by a rogue wave and almost ended up in the cave/blowhole have never been there since.
