New Years gamefishing from the beach produces some big fish!

Spent new Years down the beach doing abit of landbased game fishing.
Had 2 rods, one set up to target rays on 30lb gear and my penn senator set up for big sharks.(80lb gear)
Had 2 baits out in the water and watched the fireworks and listened to the music from the hoilday park, few having a party on the beach but no one was near me and had most of the beach to myself.

Wasnt long and the 30lb gear went off and line peeled off the reel. The Penn 950ss did well on the ray, gave it heaps and after
15 mintues had a Short tail rail of about 50-60lb landed.
30 minutes after that the penn senator made that great sound of line peel of the reel and something took the large kahawai frame. Thought it be a shark so let it run for awhile before loaded
    up on it.
Knew i had a big fish but didnt feel like a bronzie and thought its going to be a very big ray.
Battle last 30 odd minutes and gave that 80lb gear a good work out, and landed a very big ray.

Managed to flip it over and get the hook out and released it. See it had another hook in it but was too deep for me to get out.
Not sure what it weight but must of been 150lb plus for sure

A young guy came down to watch and he knew my mate and had come down to catch his first bronzie hopefully.
He was saying he had lots of runs from big sharks the night before but couldnt hook up. I took him he wasnt letting themm run long enough so if you get one hold of and let it take the bait.

He threw a bait out using 80lb gear and within 5 mins he hooked up on a big shark. After 45 mins we still havnt seen it but i was thinking this ones going to be bigger than the 6-7 footers being
caught this season so i pulled in all my gear and watched to help him land his first shark.

After a hour i saw it, it was a good bronzie, picking at least 9 foot so was hoping he get it in.

Hour and a half he had the big shark in and who says shark fishing isnt dangerious hahaha. Should really have a tail rope but we just grab them by the tail, hopefully they tired lol.

Well this shark had a big tail, and when i went in and grabbed it i had a good hold and went to drag it up toward the beach but the power of this fish was unbeliveable.
A big tail flick and no shit, i was sent flying 3 meters into the air and ended out to sea and in the drink!

Totally under then poped up to see the shark heading for me and i was out of there soaked to the bone !
10 mintues later had another go in shallower water and managed to hang on and pulled it up for the photos for the guy.

Measured in at 9 foot one , think this is the biggest one caught this season of the local beach so was a good effort.
Hook, even thou it was a circle hook was very deep so had to cut it off as close as i could and sent it on its way. Not a bad new years,

Might not of got a shark myself but i enjoyed watching a good fight and helping out plus had some battles on rays myself so all good

It was just after 4 this morning when I read this yarn. I was suffering from the usual pre fishing trip ailment I think @veitnamcam calls "fishing insomnia"

It was a great way to start the day. Cheers

Ended up seeing a big bronzie myself we had just raised a pack of kingis to the boat one of which was hooked.

Next minute they all disappeared except for the hooked one and up out of the blue water came the reason why. A big stonker bronzie !!

Instantly thought of you and the above yarn, shit they are a solid animal. Reckon they give that 80lb penn of yours a dam good work out

Oh and I should mention that I shared your story (complete with photos) with dad and the boys on the way to the boat ramp this morning and they thought it was pretty cool too
