    Oysters from Tairua harbour

    Howdy Y’all

On my travels today around the Tairua harbour at low tide, I found a nice patch of good size oysters, has anyone eaten them from this area? I’ve checked online and can’t find any toxin warnings, wasn’t gunna eat em raw but now I’m questioning eating them at all as they weren’t that hard to find and were on a rock semi out of the water.
    Any help appreciated
    Cheers

I’d be careful and check with healthiest or locals in the know.reason is that the river feeding the estuary traverses farming and hort land. The water may contain nasties. When I lived at Katikati, locals ate oysters from Pahoia area with similar river feed. Several ended up with ultra bad squirts bum. Nothing worse that seafood sickness.

Squirty bum would be a mild case.

Yeah not keen on a dose of the bumwees ...... one local has said no way !! And one has said yeah should be sweet as, so will probably err on side of caution, plenty of crays and Terakihi to eat no need to chance it
    Cheers guys
