Tomorrow night we find out the decision that the MPI has made today regarding the catch limits in SNA1 I hope it is not in favor of the commercial guys.

It has been done our new catch limit is now 7 and size limit increased to 30CM, no change for the commercial guys apart from stricter monitoring. While I am happy with increase in size limit and a loss of 3 fish per person per day I am not too happy about the commercial sector not taking a cut in limit or increase in size limit thier size limit has been maintained at 25cm

Commerce must roll on! Hah, I feel extending the areas commercial fishers can fish should be done. We are missing an opportunity to have more reserves and more opportunity for tourism, 7 bigger fish is not all bad but a bit one sided

Ah well could have been way worse, 2 fish less and at 30cm there is nearly meat on them

I think the result sucks for you avid fisho's but are you sure you have lost 3 per day Hunter308?

Gibo the big dead snapper will feed the sharks. the sharks will then grow bigger and stronger and eat a lot more snapper therby reducing their number further ...... oh hang on that doesn't fucking work ..... yeh Wtf use are they dead?

25 is way to small and should have been lifted to 30 for rec anyway.
Lifting it for commercial would just result in more discard.

Hopefully the monitoring of commercial is actually effective and not possible to circumvent but i won't hold my breath.

As for the catch limit well 7 good snapper is enough imho but the cut is in the wrong sector.

Commercial fishing are catching our fish and making millions from it.

I'm happy with 7 per day at 30cm but feel the commercial guys should have their minimum size increased to the same. How much salable flesh do they get off a 25cm snapper ,that size would hardly be worth trying to fillet & then boneless it out you'd loose biggest part.
I think they should have a cut in quota & be kept out of the inshore fishery /spawning grounds .I think 3km would probably give the stocks opportunity to regenerate.

I caught 4 Sunday night around 5lb ,more than enough for myself. 7 is quite generous but an even playing field for commercial and recreational fishing would be fairer.

7 snaps is fair, and its good to see a increase to 30cm, although it would of been got to see the com guys get a cut.

At least there seems to be new conditions for the com guys, that they have to adhere to in the next few years.

Agreed Chris what use is keeping a 25Cm fish and trying to flog what is left of the fillets just a total waste of time.

HAs that lettuce buggered off from you neck of the woods yet or is it still whiritoa that is giving the results.

Lettuce is still there Hunter but I can live with a big ball of weed on my sinker & a 5lb snapper attached to my hook. Poor old snapper getsworn out fighting the ball of weed & can barely flat when it comes onto the beach (3 out of 4 anyway) A sand shark as well Sunday night but only 1.4m long
