Thread: Pukehina boat launch

Hi all,

I'm going to be fishing off my 440 aluminum boat out of Pukehina over new years and would like some advice about crossing the bar coming out of the Waihi estuary or alternative boat launching sites. I have a 4wd so beach launch would be fine.

I understand the bar can be sketchy at times and that 2 hours either side of low tide is the best times to cross it. Any other advice regarding conditions (wind direction, speed etc) to avoid the bar on would be appreciated. Unless of course theres a better place to launch close by.
