    Rarotonga charter recommendations

Anyone got good feedback on one of the game fishing charters in Raro.

There’s a few online but at the moment it’s a lucky dip who to contact. Failing recommendations are there any horror stories on who to avoid.

Not gonna jump in the water but I’m keen to fight some big fish with rod and reel.

Last time my nz mates were up there, the feedback was “smashed by foreign fishing”.
Pay to ask a few questions outside the charter businesses I’d think.

my old boss went about it differently..he sat on wharf and watched for a few days and saw who brought in the best fish....crappy tired looking old boat..but it was doing the biz so he went out on it and caught his fish...no details sorry.

Went 4 years ago pre covid.booked a charter on a charter while there went out with akura charters .good guys and boat .as others have said smashed... myself and a mate went we were joined by 2 others from nz . I've only ever chartered game fish by myself so this was a intro .. so worked like we got 15mins each to man the rod and who's ever time it was got to reel it in..I was lucky and my 15mins of the hour caught the only tuna on board.they ran another boat and they had the smaller craft they caught a Mahi Mahi.what they do is when they come back is cut it all up and share it out toneveryone on all there boats .which after thinking about it I think was fair .so we ended up with some tuna and Mahi Mahi for the nights dinner. The highlight was watching the 1m plus gts at the wharf smash the fish guys and carcasses. The joy on seeing the kids faces when they picked us up was priceless. Worth more memories than the fishing trip

Captain Moko was alright - runs a smaller stabicraft? from one of the natural logons - great fresh fish sandwiches too!

That was 8 or so years ago though so no recent experience to share.

Otherwise take a fly rod and chase bone fish around.
