YES - good idea and use as a running Rig on Baitrunner
So what bait do you guys use mostly - Pliies are great - but not to great when stale and they just fall to bits like tissue paper
And not cheap either

What about kahawai as bait - we catching more Gurnard now in inner Pelorus than Snapper - so are the Gurnard as fussy as Snapper Re bait choice ??
Which to be honest I preff as an eater anyway
No worry about limitation on catch etc either

Salted markeral for carrots goes good, can be refrozen doesn't go mushy etc, they are suckers for a sofbait just need current and burley...well over our way that seems to be how it works..but when they are on the chew squid etc damn near anything goes
