For your kind of fishing, try:
Any of the stream mouths feeding lake Rotorua. Hamurana and Nongataha would be my pick. Also worth a go is the Oahu channel that links lake Rotorua with Rotoiti. Spin the water at the weir where channel starts (lake Rotorua end). Another spot worth a heave is from the jetty almost opposite Okere falls store, or the ‘trout pool’ down the side road at the falls store.
Neighbours grandkid landed a 71b trout on a pink lure whilst fishing at McLarens Falls park, near Tauranga. Hope that helps.
