    Salmon

I know nothing about fishing. I haven't really done much of it. I do however thoroughly enjoy Salmon. It's some hell of delicious stuff and I would like to catch some, since it costs a fortune. What do I need to know?

A fricken lot to be successful! And a lot of hours on the river to get it pat!

But start with ross millichamps book on salmon I forget the name of it!

Fish change of light.. And just go to the crowds to begin with!

Learn their habits and stay ahead of the pods and keep your hook FARKN sharp!
And then you will be in with a chance!
When theyre o"n" your back at the hut by 8am with a limit! when theyre not ull spend two weeks daylight to dusk pulling your hair out!!

Grasshopper. This time next year I'll be having to tell you.
The oldman equaled his best ever year this year on them. Five fish, but there has been a shitload of years with 0 caught. Expensive pastime.

you can fish off the rocks at the lighthouse round from Moeraki they are around there around xmas new years. Since they are feeding then they are easier to catch, same story with fishing in otago harbour

There were 2 Salmon caught in the Ngaruroro this season and a 3rd dropped at the net! This is a Hawkes Bay river. All hooked by the same woman.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

    Hi Gimp,
If all you want to do is catch salmon, head to the Canals.
I stopped off there with the Wife and I just let her fish. She had caught/released 9 before I thought I better have a go. We ended up catching 12 in under an hour and left with our limit of 4.

Her she is showing how it is done.

Flick me a PM if you want and I'll give you a call to give you all details of where to go and what to do etc.

A bloke I knew used to catch 3 or more in a season trolling in the sea in morake , as in boulders ( excuse the spelling ). That was 15 yrs ago can't see why it would have changed . He had pretty good strike rate , for time fished . If river fishing with no expert to show you the ropes , stick to the river mouth , as it seems to be complete luck as opposed to skills . Upriver experience pays dividends . BB advice is bang on .

I'm keen to go for salmon whenever you are. There are a couple of ok spots where you can catch them in the harbour, but I hear the canals are much more productive. My friend posted photos on Facebook of her two boys catching their bag limit three days in a row there. Decent sized fish too.

Have hardly used my freshwater license so far this season. Set a date and I'm there.
