Thread: Salmon setup

I want to give salmon fishing a nudge. I have trout spinning and jigging gear, and sea fishing gear. In particular a shimano 7ft stray lining rod. Is this too heavy? I think it's rated 10-15kg. Reel wise, I have a shimano Calcutta with 15lb braid, and a shimano bait runner with 20lb mono. Are either of these usable to get me going? I'm hoping to avoid buying anything more right now, but eventually will buy a specialist salmon setup.
