Shark ID question
Couple of days ago I came across a shark that had been caught and left to rot on a beach near Waikanae. I was a little stumped on what it was (fresh kill as well).
It was about a metre and a half long snout to tail tip. It's top colouring was greenish (reminded me of a kahawai), the bottom was greyish. I've looked at pictures of school sharks, this thing had a dorsal fin with more of a point to it like a great white, and a more stout body with a definitive hump. The tail was longer on the top with a bit more length to it (like a bull shark).

Nope, nothing like it. No spots, it's not a flat shape, it's shaped more like a great white/bull shark. Stout as in "barrel chested" for lack of a better description, not long and floppy.

Bronze whaler? Probably the most common shark in close/in the surf up this way.

Bronzie would be my pick. See them at Kapiti over summer.
Look anything like this?

Yes, pretty much that shape but the top colouring was more greenish. Could've been the light on the day I guess.
