    Plenty of campgrounds up the top of the peninsular, and they will be empty this time of year.
    May onwards always seemed to produce off the rocks for me.
    Easy access to good surf casting around Otama and Opito, 20 mins North of Whitianga. Also a few easy rock spots around the area.
    One small word of warning. If your mate is in a camper, the council Nazis up that way are hot on freedom camping
