sikaflex fc11 for breathable wader seam repairs and sealing???

I've been told that sikaflex fc11 is a way more cost effective - and just as good - solution for seam sealing breathable wader seams where they have started to leak. I used a $30 tube of stormsure, which seems good, but on 2 sets of waders, would cost about $240.....
Hence thinking to try the fc11 at $30 for a full tube. I'll try it on some cheap Scierras first.
Anyone had experience with it? Wondering if it needs to be diluted at all.

Had plenty of experience with it, not in your application though. Not a product you can dilute, for ease of application keep it warm 20 - 25 degrees will make it far easier to use than if cold. It's a good quality product as sealant/adhesives go. There are some others out there that may work as well if not better as the technology has improved from 11FC (polyurethane) to products like Bostik Safe Fix or Fixall High Tac (MS Based).

Good idea to trial on something cheap, it will be hard to remove if it works.

I used the marine version Sika 291 to repair rubber product, wetsuit and even better 3m 5200. It’s not pretty but bulletproof

I'll track some of that 3m stuff down and try that. Thanks. Good to see you sorted your PRC issue eventually - interesting.

OK - have had a go.

Stormseal - easy to apply, barely visible, and a smooth finish. Does it work? Dont know yet but looks like it will.
Sikaflex FC11 - easy to apply but its harder to apply a a lot less viscous than stormseal. On the other hand - it seems to have stuck really well. Hard to get a smooth finish due to consistency. Its very visible due to colouring. Don't know it it works yet either....

Stormseal - cost $29 to do 80% of one leg.
Sikaflex FC11 - cost $30 to do the rest of two waders and have enough left over for 10 more.

If they both work similarly, I'd go with the fc11, although as the finish is rough, getting them on and off might be a bit tricker. Not much tho.
    nzfubz and XR500 like this.

Sikaflex FC11 - easy to apply but not as easy as stormseal as it is less viscous, making it hard to get a smooth finish - thats what I meant to say.

Water with a little dishwasher detergent from a spray bottle on the 11FC will allow you to smooth it off really nicely with bare hand or gloved hand/fingers if needed.

11FC. Also known as Satan's snot.

Awesome stuff, we use it a lot at work - it travels almost as much as bearing blue or anti seize, and is a bitch to clean off hands. Sure stops stuff getting where it shouldn't though.
