Get yourself set up properly. A purpose designed rod, reel and line is essential. You don't have to spend a lot of money, but you do have to spend some. Hot tip, Gulp is bait albeit synthetic. Snapper in particular want to eat it. You will get a lot more bites with Gulp. Downside is that it is easily damaged and expensive. If the bite is hot, use ZMan or other plastic softbaits.
