Thread: Trip up the coast surf casting

Sea had flattened off so headed up the coast to Whiritoa for a fish.Got there & set up just on dusk tonight,by time had #2 rod rigged the 1st was getting a nibble.

No worries probably a small kahawai,so got the 2nd rod out & in holder. Deal to the little Kahawai .Got that in & just put rod in stand ,2nd rod loads up real good. A good scrap followed ,once in the shore wash the bloody thing went ballistic.Felt a lot like a sting ray now & just too dark to see what it was or line angle . Head lamp 20m away & I got my hands full ,another wave & keeping the pressure on I had it on the sand.

Not a sting ray either ,pretty happy with this fish .

Couple of Kahawai for the smoker to follow .Not a bad spot for night fishing & produces some very nice fish.
