    Tropical fishing. Looking for suggestions.

My wife and I are thinking about a trip away this winter to chase some different species of fish. The South Pacific Islands or Austraila are the idea but I have absolutely no idea where woud be the best option.
My ideal would be a place which would let us walk the coast casting lures about to catch whatever wants to eat them (and release them) and perhaps a day boat trip into the blue water (if the budget allows) to catch some different critters. I am not even sure if this is a "thing" in the Islands but would be interested to hear from anyone who has tried such things and get some first hand advice.
    Cheers.

Look at Niue. No reef as it's an Atoll. Straight off into the deep.
If you want to keep any fish you would want to talk to the Chief of the island first

Thanks. No intention of keeping anything. Just a photo and back into the ocean.

    Go to Niue.
One issue is flights, only 2 or 3 times a week depending on time of year.
    Great people, great fishing,

And if your keen, let me know and I'll get some locals to look after you.

If you don’t want to eat anything, pretty much any place you can get accomodation will do,
What you need to decide is what you want in the way of destination ie nice resort ,ac cabins, car to travel etc
Grab a sport tube and go

I had heard that you can't just go and fish where you want off the shore in the Islands like you can in NZ?

Anywhere in Cook Islands is good, I caught a bloody good Mahi Mahi there a few years ago, best tasting fish I have ever eaten.

Solomons are great, but you've got to pick your spot. The place in the link looks awesome. Honiara is a shit hole, albeit in quite a charming way. You'd be wading through plastic bags, condoms and soiled nappies if you were daft enough to dip your toes.

"Shit hole" is being very polite. Munda is good. In the time I have been going the airport has gone from grass field to sealed runway with direct flights from Australia. Road to Noro gone from dirt 4wd track to sealed road. Its a great place.

Probably! One thing I will say about the place, I could walk down the street and receive zero hassle. Having spent a little time in Asia, that was quite nice.

I have seen enough footage from this place over the years to put it on my bucket list.
Can put you in touch with a guy who has modest beach house on resort that may be available to a mate
