    Trout - total beginner - any tips?

    Morning all - this weekend coming I'll be staying right beside a river that I've seen trout in before.
    I'm gonna grab a day license and try my luck spinning.

    Being a total novice - what do I need to know?
    How fast do I retrieve - as fast as I would for Kawahai?
    Standard wee spinning rod and light tackle?
    Any laws I need to know?
    Do they feed late at night, as I saw heaps of them over my headlamp last time I was there.
