Just a mid day ramble...
I havn't been to the Waihou walkway for a few years (5 or so), and used to enjoy casting a dry there even if only for wee tiddlers
most of the time. The walkway never really got too busy, even over the summer months. So a couple of weekends ago, with the weather all rainy
and such, I thought I'd give it a visit for the first time in ages. Thought it would be nice and quiet with the weather being as it was.
Got to the top car park at about 8am and there was a big bus parked up and a bunch of extra parking spaces laid out. Turns out that the walkway is now on every tourist brochure out there. I started fishing but pretty soon, after about 2 hours or so, gave up. The walkway got so busy and the tourists so inquisitive that I had to ask groups of them who were all taking photos, to move out of my back cast area. I had to do this 3 times. And I wasn't anywhere close to the foot path either.
I'm not really complaining, tourism is a good thing. Its just an eye opener to see how the volume of people using that walkway has picked up.
I think I'll visit the less obvious stretches from now on.
