    Waipakihi River trout

Are there trout all the way up the Waipakihi River, above the Rangipo dam?

I read a wilderness article saying that they had seen them on a tramp up the river. Thinking of a walk up river a few hours hunting and fishing, after an easier walk to take the wife in for an overnighter and the river walk sounds a good option

Is leaving your car parked at the end of the Waipakihi road ok at the moment, before the gates get closed.... be a good 15 years and one dog since I last walked up there.

F&G do a regular release behind the dam, never seen any up the river. Read somewhere that the river moves around to much to be anygood.Get heaps in the spilling basin after a water release and with the syphon running theres enough water for them to scoot across the concrete lip.

Great place for a few days for sure. I've walked up the river a few times (including a couple of weeks ago) but never seen a trout. Not sure about parking at Waipakihi road end, but Urchin is a good place to park / start.
