    Wellingtonian - Fly Fishers

    Hi guys

So the new Trout season kicks off today.

    Mice-fattened trout await anglers - national | Stuff.co.nz

Got my license sorted for the whole season so will be heading out to Hutt river to try exploring this new sport in my to do list.

Would really appreciate any keen felas around to show how this is done as this will be my first time trouting. (Have all my fly fishing gears)

Have been Internet trouting so will see how it goes in real.

Tips and tricks will be highly appreciated as well.

If you ever make your way north of Taupo - Let me know I'll take you out for a lesson on the water for a half day. South Waikato towards Te Awamutu is my easiest consistent producing water to get to being a Jaffa these days, but happy to pass on a few tip and tricks as you say.

Flick me a PM if you're up this way...

Definitely catch and release scribe - as it always was for me around there.

But being a ex-guide you now know why I'm doubly pissed at the latest green rainstorms across the country.

I wonder if Tourism NZ would do a impact report on the aerial drops effect on tourism expenditure that 1080 is having. they seem to do it every time we get something like a film made here or a car race .... I wonder if they balance the ledger... yeah right!!!

This may have as much impact for guides potentially as the GFC which was our version of the Rena for the US market of clients..

@initiaz Try the Wellington Fly Fishers | Homepage

Club they are actively involved and run trips, coaching and a few years ago (as I remember it) had their own stocked pond.

A very good local place to start...

Yes I guess its going to get worse before it gets better for the Guiding Game.

Just had and interesting conversation a few minutes ago. Evidently the British Tabloids and Hunting/ fishing Mags have gone mad on this story about NZ poisoning its own trout. At the moment this guy is sourcing photos of this crime and flicking them to the UK as fast as he can. The Yanks are a little behind the Brits on this but they will make up for it when they find out what we have been doing.

Its Bye Bye Clean Green New Zealand, and Hello 1080% Pure New Zealand.

Nice work Scribe, Similarly I went to Uni and flatted with for a year the now Director of the EWG in the US, Heather White. As far as Governmental pressure groups go this is the duck's nuts for the eco-concerned in influencing Govt policy in the House and Senate. I have to laugh when I see her on telly with Dr Oz talking about the chemicals in things we don't think about like cosmetics.

Any way I've offered to a few people introduce themselves to each other and share strategy and thoughts about how to swing the mainstream NZ opinion, until its an issue nobody can dodge.
Hopefully that will bear fruit and help our local cause. Her Husband Dave was also a fisheries officer and researcher in Washington State...

I won't go into more detail maybe you PM me and I'll give you my personal e-mail addr. for more on this

    Regards Paul.

This is beginning to feel like a 1080 land grab to "get as much as the country covered in the shit before they stop us".... or its a "we're so far in, we have to keep going 'cos its going to look bad when we finish regardless" - so take the hit, strategy.

Or was that the plan all along...

A warning from DOC in the Te Awamutu Courier today warning people not to eat trout from streams that drain out of the 1080ed areas on Pirongia so that's most of those lovely rivers trout rivers around Te Awamutu isn't it ?
