Hi everyone, just wondering what the smallest size jig you have used to catch kingfish. Was wondering if anyone has ever used small ones successfully 6-10cm and 20-30 grams. Or is that just to small?
Thanks

Have used a 28gm flea which are about 20mm long and made of tungsten, made by ocean angler. their knife jigs are not to bad on kings as-well.
They are goof fun on the 15lb gear!
For me its more about getting to the required depth fast enough. If i was say jigging in 60 metres which is pretty shallow it would take bloody ages for a 20-30 gram jig to get to the fish, and if there was a decent speed drift id likely be well of the mark
I have caught and landed a 100cm king on a 4-5cm squid imitation metal jig but that was pure luck not targeting kings.
I generally use a 300-350grm knife or flutter jig to target them but I am fishing insane current when doing it.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
I've caught them twice on 30gm kahawai hex lures.
You can catch them on very small lures. Most of the kingfish I've taken are by-catch when jigging or soft baiting for snapper. Having said that, small lures are not a selective or efficient way to target them.
200-400gram knifes, straighter and longer the better imo but i have caught them on 30gram jigs as by-catch
the bigger lures usually deter the smaller fish from getting caught
anything can hoover small stuff
iv got them on every sort of slider/butterfly/sabiki rig you can think of
they are like flies when they are undersized you cant keep them off your gear and each one needs to be played carefully which eats up peak bite times or that half an hour of slack before the tide starts running
the size of the jig tho is as stated above to get it to the bottom the heavier it is and the Knifier it is the faster it will cut the water and get to the bottom before its waaaaaaaaay out the back of the boat
the problem usually is getting past the swarm of rats to the larger ones at the bottom.
kingiis love soft baits if that gives you any idea of how small they hoover and with small jigs you often have to dig it out of their throat = dead undersized kingii. do that a few times and you realize why its an aweful idea
best thing I find is a decent livie either slow trolled off the boat or balloon off shore that way you can set the size of the kingii you want by the size of the live bait
