The optical clarity angle is not really much advantage - in my thoughts anyway as the disturbance on the surface and wash is still going to be visible with fluro. Fluro is also stiffer, more so than heavy mono. The other point for me is the cost, I chuck mono rigs away at the first sign of damage but the jew in me would be holding onto fluro until the last micron is hanging in there ready to bust...

Tuna have teeth is my guess. We have caught lots and never worried about switching to fluro, only time that would be valid is if you were expecting to fight the thing for hours i.e. spin reel on a 80+kg Yellow fin or any Blue fin over 150kg were the teeth have more time to rub through
Another thing to note with fluro is, once it has been shocked i.e. stressed after a good fight, its strength falls well below test rating, its almost a one and done type leader.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking with it too. Mono leader (well the decent stuff) is pretty bloody abrasion resistant from my experience, after a decent fish the leader is done for regardless as you can't see a lot of the critical wear points. It's a bit different in the scenario of lure-shy fish where you have to do what you do to get the strike, but in that case I would be wondering about a lighter grade of mono as well. My experience of fluro is once you get enough pressure on it it just pinches off, and can be more susceptible to parting than mono. Interesting question though, always good to be challenged in your thinking I reckon and as noted more tools in the box is good.

Well I heard back from Tecni-sport and I am buying some of their fluoro to try. It is far cheaper than other stuff I've seen (around $200 for 10M of youzur1 200lb from other retailers). Tecni-sport sell it by the metre from filler spools.
