Looking to buy some Fluoro to rig tuna lures. I was surprised to see that the usual suspects marine deals, smartmarine, discount fishing supplies don't have much on offer usually up to around 130lb but no higher. I did find this outfit https://tecnisport.co.nz/Fluorocarbon-Per-Meter---200Lb

Trolling skirted tuna lures tried technisport opened account but no registration confirmation after 2 days so can't order...
Taking the post to an aside, what is the reason behind running fluro on lures? Always looking to learn something, I run it on livies and lures that aren't dragged - but I don't follow that there is an advantage for trolling?
The optical clarity angle is not really much advantage - in my thoughts anyway as the disturbance on the surface and wash is still going to be visible with fluro. Fluro is also stiffer, more so than heavy mono. The other point for me is the cost, I chuck mono rigs away at the first sign of damage but the jew in me would be holding onto fluro until the last micron is hanging in there ready to bust...
Want some just to try it the more tricks in the bag the better plus its more abrasion resistant. I've used it before in the pacific to catch very fussy yellowfin that would not bite after full day break but they would take small soft plastics rigged on fluoro slow-trolled
Tuna have teeth is my guess. We have caught lots and never worried about switching to fluro, only time that would be valid is if you were expecting to fight the thing for hours i.e. spin reel on a 80+kg Yellow fin or any Blue fin over 150kg were the teeth have more time to rub throughQuote:

Yeah, that's what I was thinking with it too. Mono leader (well the decent stuff) is pretty bloody abrasion resistant from my experience, after a decent fish the leader is done for regardless as you can't see a lot of the critical wear points. It's a bit different in the scenario of lure-shy fish where you have to do what you do to get the strike, but in that case I would be wondering about a lighter grade of mono as well. My experience of fluro is once you get enough pressure on it it just pinches off, and can be more susceptible to parting than mono. Interesting question though, always good to be challenged in your thinking I reckon and as noted more tools in the box is good.Quote:
