    Whirinaki waioeka area

    Hey Guys,

Planning to get out and explore some new areas (usually hunt Pureora) and take the young fella (4yo) can anyone point me in the direction of which areas may hold a few more trout ?
Big days for my mate so as many options for entertainment and keeping things fun is great, he loves his fishing.

Of course will be taking a rifle too but imagine the whole area has plenty of animals.

So far thinking okahu valley might be a good first trip?

    Cheers!

I took my boy into Koranga Forks hut when he was 5 (he’s 18 now)
It’s a reasonable walk in but easy enough if you take your time. The track in has a bit of variety and a few interesting spots to keep them keen.
We were catching fish in the pool just out from the hut and the river travel is relatively easy, well it was back in 2011😆😆

You would need to walk in towards skips hut to fish, I've hunted the okahu alot and never seen trout in the valley. Seen afew in the pools closer to skips hut

Just checked that out, looks sweet almost prefer to just camp tho with the young fella which opens up a few more options.
His grandmother lives close too so getting dropped somewhere should be easy to organize.

    Thanks man,

Midway camp looks like a great spot to camp by truck regardless but the more trout the better haha

Barry you are a real wealth of knowledge for the area, would you suggest walking south from Redpaths rd or North from Moanui?

Forks and head up the river for a hunt Forks likely gets less fishing pressure and river access is easier -the river from Redpaths grass to Nikau is hard to get at - the track is well above it but doable --above Nikau its all good I would go Forks
