    42 Traverse Direction

    Hey all,

Now that my Can Am Commander is now broken in, I'm looking at doing the 32 Traverse, once my winch and skid plates arrive. (Have good ARB recovery gear)

I was looking at staying at Owhango hotel and going north to south and then back again.

I heard it was best to go south to north, but as i don't have a support person to drag my car and trailer around to the other end, i what to do both directions in one day.

    Possible????

Brother, his mate and their boys did it recently in one day from Chateau side. One tank of gas. 104km. They stayed at a lodge on their side. Can find out where tomorrow.
They travelled down the Owhango side and dropped some fuel off at Owhango but never used it
They did it in 6.5hrs plus another 1.5hrs playing around

Good to see that it is possible in one day, I've got a 37ltr tank and i carry a 20ltr jerry can, so i should be good on the fuel side of things.

Just have to plan it for a early start with the reduced light coming into winter.

i only got e class ergo on the Commander, thats why i was looking at Owhango entry, as its only a few km on public roads, but if there is a lodge close to the other entry, i might make it a two day ride and then ride back with my wife the next day.

We (15 of us) did it in a convoy of 4wheelers and rinos from the mt ruapehu side to the hotel and back in one day on one tank of gas - probably only used 1/2 - 2/3 of our tanks. Do it that way as you can have burgers and beer at the hotel for lunch.
The 4wheelers where just your standard farm jobbies nothing flash.

    Bloody awesome day.

    Hey Timmay,

a group that size would have been fun, i like the idea of stopping at the pub for lunch, could be the way to go.

did you just park up and unload at the Kapoors rd carpark, or did you ride from accommodation on that side?

Spoke to my brother. Either direction no problem on a quad. The start from SH47 is mainly for mountain bikers as there is more downhill for them from this direction. Stop for a feed at the Owhango hotel and back to the lodge was the go

It was great fun! Yep plenty of good banks of dirt to unload your 4wheeler at the road end. If you dont dally around too much it isnt a long day.

    Thanks guys,

Trip is now planned for the start of May, after the Mountain bike race is finished down there.

    Cheers
