To the discust of the hard core motorheads, the stock std ring dings would frequently podium on the competition off road circuit in production class.got to the point where the V8 guys realized if you can't beat em,join em.That put the value up as a sort after set up and they were quickly snapped up.Along with most Jap vehicles of that time they suffered heavily with cancer and now all have vaporized into IronOxide.Bless the smokey ol Zook!
3" thick winter ice on Takapari Rd circa '80's.Never to be seen again?Global warming in action.I blaim all the smokey Zooks for the climate emergency
We were at Totara Flat (Westcoast) late 70's.
They had a couple for the tractor drivers. Rod the mechanic repowered them with small 4cly motors as the 2 strokes went bang very quickly.
On one occasion he hid one in the oil store. Used a couple of wood blocks & backed it up onto the truck deck height landing & into the shed.
The driver refused to drive it back out when it was shown to him. Probably 1.2 - 1.5m up. Wouldn't believe they hadn't lifted it in. :-)
Bit tippy if you weren't careful.
@pennyless really? That's old old stomping ground. Rod was an old family friend along with his bro Kevin and his sister Cheryl. I will add though, that I was born in 71 so a bit older than me.
played footy with Eddie Gregory's son Dean. Even was a milk boy for Charlie Quibell (second cousin) and delivered milk to the forestry houses on Saturday's and school holidays.
back to Rod, whilst i suspect he wasn't the only one, a bit much like net guns in NZ where they seemed to pop up in several places at once, Rod told me one time he wanted to fit a Corolla engine into one and was told by NZFS hierarchy it couldn't be done but had already done it. Ask for forgiveness not permission.
