Hey guys/girls,
I have always wanted to get to highest point of nz so I figure at 25 there is no better time than now for me.
Any chance any of you have or are lining up to do it in the next climbing season?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
And yes I am good with heights and fitness shouldn’t be a issue.

It's definitely on my list. Probably not this season though. I want to climb unguided, most likely via the Zurbriggens Ridge rather than Linda Glacier. Have done a bit of general mountain and rock climbing including a week long skills course. Also done a reasonable amount of ice climbing. Want to hone my skills first and definitely need to improve my fitness which has slipped recently...

Yeah, I whipped up there last Tuesday. Cool view. Shot some Tahr and did handstands down backwards for fun. Next time I'll pack my wingsuit.
but seriously, @The Claws post of him ice climbing gives me the shits enough let alone going up a frigid mountain of death. That bothers me enough to never consider it.

I went to climb it back in '94 but it was out of condition, so climbed Malte Brun and Aguillie Rouge instead. You'll need a bit more than a head for heights and fitnes to climb it, unless you pay a guide to take you up the Linda.
If you are really keen the Technical Mountaineering course run by Alpine Guides at Mt Cook would be a good place to start, otherwise look up you local section of the NZ Alpine Club.
Ive climbed upon my cook....does that count???

+1 on it being a serious climb and not something to underestimate. I have a few mates who have done it, I've never been serious/committed/fit enough and stuck to smaller easier peaks instead.
If you haven't done much mountaineering before then start small and work your way up to bigger scales gradually.

A lot to consider before approaching a task of this magnitude. Kudos to those who have accomplished it.

My next door neighbour has done Cook when he was living in Dunedin. His shed has heaps of ropes and other sundry shit for climbing. From memory he has done a few others as well, fit bastard he is.

Never climbed Mt Cook but done the trio in central the North Island as a student then as a soldier when I lost some good mates in the 90's.

It didin't help their case that George Iwani (sp?) survived by himself not far away. I've camped not far from where the army did and have walked over from Tukino to Whakapapa in blizzard conditions. It can be bloody cruel up there.

Do a few training coarses with Alpine Recreation and go on the Ball Pass climb with them.Pay a guide to take you up there.Fkn long drop down and not many people come back.
Ball Pass is easy at least! Did that on a friday night after work once... was a lot fitter back then to be fair.
