Awatere Hut

Hey there guys,

Have put in some leave for both long weekends that are coming up. Have managed to work out a compromise with the boss (partner) and am getting a hut / hunt in for a night or two over the kings birthday weekend.

Have only been to stanfield hut in the ruahines, was wondering about what Awatere Hut is like. Partner is your typical lass who can happily walk for 2-4hrs but after that it becomes a challenge if there isnt much sight seeing

Any hut suggestions that may have a view and a chance to knock over an animal would be greatly appreciated while keeping the walking distance down. Will be more of a armed bush walk / sight seeing than dropping down to properly hunt the area.

iits very cold but has quite a few options for hunting. its only about an hour from the road end tho and lots of that area gets day-hunted

Plenty of animals at both, having been past both recently a lot more around Stanfield, but most sign a fair bit higher than both huts.
There's a huge amount of animals up near the A frame hut at the moment I'm not sure if that's because the roads shut and no one can be bothered walking.
Last walk to longveiw, ( just above awatere) I counted 7 deer early morning, only about 3 weeks ago.

About 200m downstream from awatere on the true left, there is a creek popping out with a track cut up to basin that's often got animals in it, have a look on Google earth.

Appreciate the responses, ill put some homework in. Main thing is making sure the boss stays happy and warm.
She was rather vocal about saturday morning walking in the frost until midday after spending the night in tent.

Dont want to ruin having walks with her, fairly lucky shes willing to tag along.

Happy and warm are not two things I've associated together with hunting the Ruahines at this time of year particularly with multiple river crossings involved.

Sounds like we need to take the D8 back up there:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Spent heaps of time in there it gets tonnes of pressure but there are always animals about if you know where to look.

The huts recently just been done up a bit as well which is a bonus :) Lovely spot!
