    Let's turn it around, and say this happened with a Kiwi protagonist in China... oh, that's right - as a Kiwi, you can't own land in China. End of story. (Technically, you can own 1 residential property as a foreigner)

    The contract terms he agreed to need to be enforced, or walking access get really will be open to a lot more contest.
