    DoC Hut Passes....

So i went an got a DoC Hut Pass..... do the right thing i thoght.

Now I thought almost Every hut had "Hut Use Fees" ??

is this not the Case and there is some that you need to pay to use / ticket and there is quite a few which you dont need to pay?

fair to say most in the National Park are Paid Huts ?

or does it come down to the "Type" of hut - Serviced, Standard and Basic/Bivvie type? with the Last Basic/Bivvie type being the Free-bies ?

    anyone got any better explination?

As far as I’m aware all huts are pay per use. None are free. Basic huts are one ticket but the serviced huts (gas and other things) are next tier pricing. I’ve never used anything other than the basic huts. Not sure how the annual hut pass works for tier 2 huts.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

    Now That explains Everything LOL
    Thanks-

theres quite a few 'Basic" ones in reasonable country from what i have sussed out- but theres no question about it now, it all comes down to the 'type' of the particular hut-

    cheers

i was going to say i donated to Doc for just use of Standard huts however i read just now the Serviced huts also come under the Annual hut pass..
still a donation, im happy to do so though, will be interesting too see if i get my moneys worth out of it..

There are some huts in the southern Ruahines that i think are no pay as they have been given to the local deer stalkers to look after Doc don't maintain tracks or the huts.

I always buy a doc annual hut pass with Nzda or other mountain club affiliation only about $80 per yr cheap I think and I am sure also helps to pay for track and bridge maintence etc The form you fill out also ask for your Nzda membership no etc good do to let DOC know we are keen to contribute. Just my 2c

I usually buy an annual pass and consider it a donation....

That’s what I do too. Given the choice I prefer a tent but it’s fantastic the huts are there
