Thread: Easy walking tracks to take a girlfriend on

Hello all

I was thinking along the lines of day trips or easy over nighters around Central North Island or up towards whangarei way.

So far I have

Crosby hut

Pinnacles

Tangihua forest.

Good hunting isn't entirely necessary but always a good thing.

i did the pinnacles 40 years ago as a teenager..........i imagine they have made it easier since then considering it is the busiest hut in the country with 100 bunks now cant have those tourists getting too tired

Waitawheta

There's some good day walk length tracks in the Kaimai's. Lindemann loop track up behind Katikati is pretty good, some old mine relic's up at the top.
A lot of the tracks join on to others so you can extend to an overnighter if you want.
If your wanting some fitness training try the Hakiramta stair's behind Ngaruawahia. Quite busy but 1340 stairs to go up and a wicked view.

Waihaha hut in Pureora. Easy walk in plus the hunting option.
Another option would be Oamaru hut in the kaimanawas. Pretty flat walk in via Poronui.
Pinnacles is a sweet well equipped hut. Even has a gas BBQ. Very busy though and you have to book in advance. No hunting either. Leitchs hut is another nice easy walk.

not hunting but go and check out the krangahake gorge theres some beautifull stuff in there to see

The tracks in Tangihua forest closest to the gate are not too bad but you do need to walk along the gravel entrance road for a couple of km before you hit the treeline and the road goes down a hill steep enough that people can have issues driving up it in 2wd cars, If you do go in there I do not recommend the Horokaka track, the track markers are few and far between and involves a piece that is more about climbing then hiking with a bit of a drop off.

I was going to do it for outdoor education but decided that staying at tiritiri matangi was a better idea.

The old mining relics are always good fun to come across.

We tried the ngamuwahine loop track. That was good.

Interestingly enough I've always driven past ngaruawahia. Even though doc reckons reds are in there.

Is this from Dennis deeming farm side or is it the lions Lodge?

Ah. Cheers. Sounds like a place for goats to hang out though

the walk thru poronui station is a real easy walk 3 hours -ish to oamaru hut .....always see deer (i find its a good opportunity to get your eyes on before you hit DOC land)just remember no bolt in the rifle! or hump it over te-iringa...then theres the walk to the cascade from the end of clements

Yeah heard that they had a problem with poaching. But good to know that there's a lot of deer.

From the Lodge side, the main track heading for the hut and the farmland seemed well trodden but the track that heads off along the ridge is pretty dodgy, the Doc site currently has an alert saying they will be doing work in there in september for kauri protection so they might do some work on the track or may just leave it as is.
Think the goats are generally on the Dennis farm end.

go camping together, you can tell yer mates the sex was in tents.............

I'd suggest taking her for a walk to the beach, if its red take a trip around to browns bay, not as much room there but far more exciting

Yeah they're at the farm end. A lot steeper and crappy there.
