    lake christabel

anyone been in there? looking at walking east to west, palmer road overnight at the lake somehwere and then out to the main road, partner is keen to come along so wondering what the track is like and if its worth bringing a rifle for an evening wander

not too much climb up to the lake though, may just go in and out the same way. depends on weather, maybe i'll ditch the missus at the hut and run up onto the tops for the day

Hi, the track is in good condition from Palmers, some people take 8 hours to walk it but that is pretty slow, the hut is good also. The Rough creek track is also in good condition, I have just started doing track maintenance in this area and this is second hand info but is fairly accurate as the lads know what they are talking about.
We flew coal and did hut services in Cannibal gorge and Ada pass hut yesterday so lots of comfort there, easy walking. Saw no animals in the chopper but three tarns pass over into the West branch looks interesting, not a large number of animals but Chamios and deer have been seen in the past.
Now is the time to get into Christabel( not a lot of animals) as in Oct/Sept there sounds like there will be a heavy blanket of green rain to protect the bats.
    Good luck

Well I went inwith a mate who grew up in the area, drove up the road a few times to see what was about... Nothing, not a living thing. He has always seen a deer or at least a few possums or bunnies in the paddocks. Had a chat to a local, had the green rain a few months ago.... Went for a day walk and covered a few favourite clearing, no sign anywhere... Guess it's done its job
