    Middle Hill Hut circa 1950s

The Forest Service built the Middle Hill Hut in 1963. My father and his brother first set the site by carrying up corrugated aluminium sheets to make a lean-to (1950s)...the Forest Service sometime later made a tent hut using the aluminium sheets for the fire place as depicted in this foto of my father using the 'hut'... (he took a time delayed foto)...

One of my favourite spots, I like the seemingly unpopular track between there and makino

First time I ever went to middle hill hut, we had left the makahu road car park at about 10.30pm. After spotting a hind in the torch light at less than 10metres, down by the footbridge, we arrived at the hut some time later. We ended up spending the night on the deck as the hut was occupied by a middle aged predator woman and a very simple young man in his 20's. She was teaching him 'bush craft' but not as we know it.
Pointer, Tommy and norsk like this.
