So I left home this morning at 6.15am to walk from Jacks Pass to the summit of Mt Isobel here in Hanmer. I left the Dunblane/Isobel top car park at 7am along with 3 others from Hanmer LandSAR to be marshals for this years Mt Isobel challenge mountain run and mountain bike race.
The competitors race from the domain (running) up Jacks pass road to the water tank and then up the tank track to the summit, then back down to the Dunblane/Isobel car park where they transition to bikes and ride up the Molesworth road to Jollies pass road. They turn up and over Jollies Pass and back into town to the domain.
We carried up to the summit a radio repeater and a timing mat that the competitors have to cross to register their times. Up on the summit by 8am to a stunning bluebird day.
For the first time in several years we had no major accidents but did have a medical emergency requiring a helicopter to winch a young 17yo female with suspected appendicitis.
I also sat and watched a helicopter doing multiple 1080 runs over in Molesworth itself.
