    Ngaruroro Jetboat Accident

Two injured in jetboat incident on Ngaruroro River in Hawke's Bay | Stuff.co.nz

We were just chatting to this guy a couple hours earlier. We boated in a different group....these fullas were a bit reckless for us.

Ironically this boat had a roll bar. And it rolled twice.

Currently sitting at the pub, the nurse and her hub that were first on the scene are walking in now.

Apparently it was a very quick change in direction on full power, boat rolled 30yards on dry shingle.

Head injuries for both occupants. Yikes.

It's a young guy with a sprint hull, apparently it's been on trademe for ages. He doesn't come out much, usually only see him in winter. I don't know his name. My bf says he's a good kid just hangs out with the guys that go zero or nothing. I'm glad I've learned from a 71yo who's lived on the river his whole life!!!!

I think they will both be okay. Hopefully learned some lessons.

No fun in taking the main channel and staying below 40ks

This is true, but it's also fucking stupid to go 90kph everywhere when you've just learned to boat, then yank on the wheel when something mysteriously pops up very quickly.

I've seen a few spills and forced beaching at Whana Whana and further below by Connors corner where the main channel suddenly is no longer the main channel due to the braided nature of that part of the river.

Tend to pick up lots of loose bits and pieces from inside the boats when fishing too.
First aid kits seem to be the most common item

People that say they were going 90km in a Jetboat were probably only going 50km so should be fine

As much as I would love to agree that they are lying, 90kph is quite achievable in most boats I saw today. The app for iPhone to GPS speed check is also free.

Our boat hasn't got anything on the V8 LVB boats and also the boat that crashed was a LS powered sprint hull, we cruise at 50-52kph at 3,000RPM and have run out of room/courage at 96KPH.

Personally I love a 70s era Hamilton but these big powered, little light boats seem to be the thing now. Maybe you haven't been on the river in a while even over the last 12 months I've noticed a huge increase in jet dinghies/shorter alloy hulls up the Ngaruroro.
