    I personally wouldn't know the river level situation, but before dropping down to the Taharua River if its in full flood, you could sidle anti clockwise around the river staying in the bush until you hit the Kaipo river and cross there to the Kaipo track as its normally shallow. Would add another hours walk I guess plus your in deer country so could hunt along the way.

    Another option is to ring Heli Sika and ask what the river situation is or ask how many cars are in the public carpark which would be indicative that the river levels are ok.
