    Pirongia off track lake

Last weekend, bumped into some hunters on Mt Pirongia (Waikato) and mentioned they had come across a lake on the mountain.

Has anyone heard of or have seen this mysterious lake on their travels?

Would love to hear from anyone!

    Cheers,

    Zac

I haven't done a huge amount of exploring off track up there but I've found a swampy area before, maybe a spot like that was flooded with all the recent rain. What area were you in? I presume they would of been hunting goats or pigs since the fallow are pretty localised and I don't think there's many reds, did they say?

Did a one day hike to the summit and back (long day) there was what i describe as a 'swamp' just after the pyramid cone 'thingy'....wouldn't call it a lake though!!!!!!!

Got 1080'd a couple of years ago from memory.
Used to be a few reds around.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !
