There's a road that goes through from rerewhakaaitu through to matahina dam, it's not technically a forestry road and isn't gated

Came through there today. Few potholes but in pretty good shape.

I just had a look at the map as wasn't aware of the rewewhikaitu to matching rd. Made me think of the million dollar road and I found this.

The route through Rerewhakaaitu to Matahina via Ashpit and Ngamotu Roads is public ..... McKee Rd through to Kawerau, and Bonish Rd ( back towards Kaingaroa village/Murupara) are private.

From the intersection with Bonisch/McKee Rds., Ngamotu and then Pokairoa Rd is unsealed until you get onto Galatea Rd.

Is there much in it if you continue on to Murapara and then Galatea / Matahina

Ngamotu rd is shorter, but probably not quicker.....and may well burn as much gas given the ~20 km (?) on metal roads that way?

Google 'sposed to know that stuff.....

Looked on gmaps but it puts you on McKee and also tells you it's limited access.
