    Survival training?

    Hey guys
Has anyone done any survival training courses or anything they would recommend?

Perhaps I've just been watching too much Survivorman on Netflix but it has got me more interested in that kind if thing.

A mate just did a day course at some SOS survival training place but said it was pretty average :s to be fair, a day is a tiny amount of time

Son have I got a deal for you! Join the Army. Ha ha ha ha a recruiting sergeant once said that to me in the bar of the old Tokoroa pub. Changed my life.
DAF, Ragtag, Dawg and 1 others like this.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Hey Rushy. I have a huge amount of respect for the folks in our armed forces (and I've had lots/got a few family members in the forces)… but I'm a government disliking bloke that likes his food a bit too much and has a problem with people telling him what to do.

    Not exactly army material

Well good luck Thomas. My cousin finished his basic training last year (or the year before, christ time goes quick). From what he was saying they push you pretty hard (as you'd expect ).

Good luck Thomas. Depending what corps you join you will be able to instruct on all manner of things that are useful to outdoor activities including survivor training when you finish up.
If you want a mechanical skill set when you leave, get a trade. If you want adventure and be a teeth arm (real) soldier join the infantry.
I did a trade then went grunt but I am not sure if they allow that anymore.
Best years if my career were infantry type work.
You need to be fit. If you have any niggles that the medical misses, the Army will beast it out of you in your first couple months. That's if it is still hard. I hear your not allowed to even yell at troops these days.

What bunny loving tree hugger made up that rule? A calmly said (so as not to offend) "Excuse me private, would you mind not stepping off with your right foot when the rest of the company is stepping off with their left foot or would you rather we encourage the rest to adopt your tendency"? Just doesn't seem to have the same feel as a loud "Oi your other left you snivelling piece of pond scum"

You will be pushed hard and made to do dumb arse things ...... they want to know if you can follow orders no matter what or if you will break.

When I did my basic Sgt Williams was on his last intake before retirement. He was in his late 50's back then.

Our first RFL Sgt Williams announced that everyone he beat was on a charge for being idle.

No one took him seriously after all we were young fit and 18 and he was an old man ready to retire...........

That was until he passed over half our platoon with only a few hundred meters to the finish.

I got 3 days CB parade for that one. Unfortunately for me that was the first of many

Old P38 finished Basic holding the record for number of CB parade days completed for our intake ........ Musta been a slow learner back then.

It's funny now looking back but I can still remember it wasn't Bloody Funny at the time.

BTW are the NCO's still allowed to call you "Dogs Balls" and "Shit for Brains" while on Parade?

    Cheers
    Pete

That said they might offer another course catered to that, have a look on their website.

Thanks I'll check it out. Unrelated but I was kind of keen on doing the hunts course but they weren't doing them for a while there.
