Rather than just swimming get yourself a board and fins and work on the mid section by using "dolphin" kicks. Few lengths of that works wonders on the abs.
When you are swimming use it as a time to chill out as well, very good for the head games of every day life as you should be practising good breathing techniques just like in yoga and that's very chilled out.
I agree with Grotto though it isn't great for anything other than swimming and cardio work out.
I found road biking is great for losing the mid section though, put in a couple of hundred k's a week with big bastard hills and watch those pounds fall off.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

    hahahaha

I recon you'd be right at home in a pair of those lycra nappy pants that all the really cool riders go for.

    Cheers

Well since you're homophobic do what I do. Ride the bike wearing jeans and an old T-shirt on an old mountain bike. Tight jeans on the thighs increases the resistance (makes you work harder) and you don't look like those unmentionable riders. Any exercise will work if you get the heart rate going. The fat guys at the pool just slooowly crawl through the water, barely rotating their arms. Grab the water and haul it and your fitness will increase. Same goes for anything, work in = results out. You could alternate between a few things, walking hills, riding a bike, swimming, banging the Mrs. They all burn energy and increase fitness. If it is fun you'll do it more.
    paddygonebush and Cyclops like this.

Did a lot of MTB riding with the last dog. Was good exercise. Never felt the need to dress up in a Lycra gimp suit emblazoned with advertising for someone who doesn't pay though.

Pretty much the same, though I will confess to buying a couple of pairs of Tri-shorts with a bit of Lycra in them. But they were a practical solution for the little triathlons I was doing at the time.
